Porco is a territory where nature and humankind have given it a historical touch and admirable beauty. Land of the ancient Yura civilization, later conquered by the Inca Empire, this exploitation in the area produced silver objects that were destined for Qoricancha, a sacred temple to the sun built in Cusco, as well as for Viracocha, the supreme deity of the Incas, ornaments to adorn the ñustas and Inca royal authorities.
Spanish control of the mines began with the arrival of Valdivia and Pizarro in 1538. It is simply extraordinary to know that the silver mined in Porco was used to finance the expedition, exploring Chile, and eventually founding Santiago de Nuevo Extremo in 1541. Legends and chronicles of what happened here are simply extraordinary.
