COOPERATIVE MINES TOUR

The Rico de Potosí mountain range is nestled in the Cordillera de los Frailes mountain range at 4,824 meters above sea level. Walking through its interior is simply unique and unforgettable. The magnificence of the self-sacrificing work of its miners and palliris, who crush the rock from dawn to dusk in the mine entrances and mills surrounding the great Sumaj Orko, is truly breathtaking. The tunnels of the cooperative system are the best example of how to understand local life . In any case, appreciating it is a testament to the days of great wealth that this silvery hill enjoyed, an inexhaustible source of riches since 1545.

Program

A fascinating adventure through the cooperative’s tunnels. We admire its various galleries, manholes, and chimneys, descending and ascending to different heights where the ambient temperature fluctuates between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. We watch the miner perform his daily tasks, such as freehand drilling, preparing dynamite, the intensity of the smoke, the explosions, and the extraction of minerals. We will certainly pay homage to the “uncle” (devil), the master and lord of the subsoil.
