MACHA – TINKU AND CHARANGO 2 DAYS / 1 NIGHT

Short description

Macha is located in the northern Andean region of Potosí. Its unique population preserves the legacy of its ancestors. The tinku (encounter) is the central ritual of the region. Its textile art is a beautiful symbol of beauty, the singing of its women, and the music of the charangos complete this fascinating panorama. Macha is the pride of the Quechua people; the origin of its festival is based on an ancestral agricultural tradition: to quench the thirst of Pachamama (Mother Earth). This ritual involves hundreds of natives fighting to defend the ayllu in order to demonstrate their strength. This is the sacrifice of their personal well-being for the good of the community. This cultural richness shines brightly on May 3rd every year, dressed in their finest attire and emboldened by chicha (a corn drink) and the making of charangos.

Day 1: Potosí – Tinguipaya – Macha.

Travel along the Supay (Devil) Route, amidst living cultures and authentic villages. Tinguipaya and Malmisa are unique ancestral sites in Bolivia. We include stops to admire the welcoming people. We arrive at Macha at the end of the day. In the evening, we suggest sharing a tinkuy with the charms of the charango.

Day 2: Macha – Ventilla.

A day in Macha, capital of the Festival of the Cross, we walk through sites of ritual encounters between ayllus, spend time with a family of origin, and visit a textile and crafts center, admiring its church built on an Inca cemetery. Return to the start of the route. END OF TRIP.
